Namiki/Pilot Pens Namiki/Pilot Pens
Ryosuki Namiki opened a small factory near Tokyo in 1915 to produce gold pen nibs. In 1916 he expanded his line to fine writing instruments. By 1925, Namiki Manufacturing patents a process to apply lacquer on the bodies of pens to protect them from scratching and fading. It is during this year that they begin to embellish their pens using the centuries old art form of maki-e. However, it was not until 1994 that the parent company, Pilot, introduced maki-e pens in the U.S. under the name of Namiki. Today, skilled Japanese artisans continue to use the finest materials to create pens that look beautiful and perform flawlessly. Namiki redefines quality in premium writing instruments.
